Another issue with my 'Driving Instructor'... lol

I was always lead to believe that RFL couldn't be claimed back, but now im reading/hearing that it can for a driving instructor... is this true, if it is has anyone got hard evidence to back it up as I cannot find anything online :(

Hi Gary

RFL has always been a claimable business expense, if the vehicle is used for business, just as with insurance, MOT, servicing and fuel.

If the client is claiming mileage (unlikely if it is a driving instructor), rather than actual costs, then you don't.

The only thing not claimable on RFL is VAT because it is outside the scope.

I couldn't find any thing that specifically mentions RFL but most references are made to "motoring expenses" as a general expense

Ahhh, I read that differently. Claimed as meaning from DVLA - if overpaid, as in ceased to require a road fund license. I think a portion is reclaimable if you're unable to drive, for instance through ill health.

Agreed though - its claimable against profits in the course of trade.

best wishes,
Tim

Hi Tim

I just reread the post, and now read it in a different context but again, any full months not used (Vehicle sold, or SORN) can be claimed back using a form from the Post Office. DVLA refund.

Actually just done this myself for a 1 month refund
