I am a self employed bookkeeper working between 7 clients every week. During the school holidays, I need to pay for occasional holiday clubs for my son to allow me to work. Am I able to account for any of this cost on my PNL?
you can get working and/or child tax credit contributions towards childcare costs but you cannot get your business to pay towards the childcare as it is not a direct cost of the business so fails the wholly and necessarily test.
kind regards,
Shaun.
P.S. single parent running my own business with no close relatives to help out myself so can completely empathise with the frustration you are going through.

Although if you were to incorporate the company could offer a childcare voucher scheme as here: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/exb/a-z/c/childcare.htm
It doesn't sound like it would suit your circumstances, but I thought I'd mention it for other people with more substantial childcare costs as it's something of an under-used way of reducing tax.
