Claiming back mileage difference
Permalink Closed

Hi, I have been working as an administration and accounting apprentice for around one and half months and have incurred some business mileage this week when I have been out to collect some bookkeeping in my own car. My manager has told me that it's company policy to reimburse mileage at 20p per mile and that I could claim the difference in the 45p rate from HMRC. As a test my manager has asked me to research how I actually do this in real life. He has said that he will give me the answer in the morning if I cannot find out but would really like to show some initiative and that's why I'm asking on the forum. Greg

You would claim relief for the other 25p on your tax return (though if you dont do one then you cant claim the extra relief.

To claim back expenses from your employment you should use the HMRC form P87. You can find the form here: www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/p87.pdf
