Can't access Sage backup
Permalink Closed

I have been asked to produce some accounts for a new client to 30/9/11, and have been given a Sage backup which is supposed to include data up to 30/11/11.

I don't have Sage (I went for VT) and so asked a colleague in another office if he could load the backup and run me off a TB and an audit trail.  He says that he's been able to reload the file but can't then access any of the data.  He says he's using version17 which is one of the latest.

Can anyone think of any reason why this might be?  I haven't used Sage for such a long time.  Plus, I don't want to buy it as the client moved over to Xero early 2012.

I'm wondering whether the easiest thing to do would be to just take the last accounts to 30/9/10 and do an incomplete records job in Excel.  But then there's the risk that what I produce doesn't tally with the VAT returns that have been submitted...

Any advice would be appreciated...

What version of Sage was the data created in? Looking at the date it might have been created in V18 which is 2012 and I don't think it's backwards compatible.

It might be worth having a look at Ledgerscope.com which is web-based subscription service, but i think you get a free trial and you won't need to buy Sage or do incomplete records.

Hi Jo,

I'm from Ledgerscope.

Just to let you (and others know), you can use our software to read Sage files even if you don't have a copy of Sage yourself.

Our software will email your client (with your firms's branding) and ask them to click a link to upload their data directly from their own Sage into Ledgerscope over the Internet. You can then login to see the numbers and make adjustments etc. We also highlight queries in the data that might need your attention automatically for you.

Hope this helps.

Adrian

(Thanks for the referral Louise)
