I can't see what an ICB qualification can offer that your AAT & ACCA don't. Re. tax, surely you did tax during ACCA? With the qualifications you have, I would think more about the experience aspect than getting another peice of paper, and with tax getting back up to date if you're not.
One other thing to consider though, if you are a member of ACCA, is whether you can get a practice license and if not whether what you are planning to do would be in contravention of its regulations.

I'm new on the forum. I'm AAT and ACCA qualified, AAT in 2001 and ACCA in 2006. However in Feb 2010 I went on maternity leave, and since Feb 2011 I have been employed by my husband's company one day a week using Sage Instant accounts as a bookkeeper and doing the payroll. I am now considering becoming a self employed bookkeeper but I'm not sure what to do.
Whether it would be better to try and get some experience working as a bookkeeper in another company, for a year or so and then try on my own, or if it would be better to sit the ICB exams so I can show that my skills are up to date?
I know I have AAT but it is 11 years old now and with my ACCA qualification I was only working as an assistant accountant in a large insurance/investment corporation in the Corporate Reporting dept so doing month end duties, quarterley reporting, not using Sage.
I didn't do tax at AAT so I'm also thinking whether it would be useful to do the AAT tax exams so that I could offer that.
I'm wondering if it is going to be useful to do the ICB exams, or if it would just be better to get some more work experience so potential clients can be confident in my abilities?
You will find many colleges offer their qualifications because they are QCF and which will compliment the training you have already done. Your existing qualifications will give you some exemptions, but as they aren't book-keeping based, you will also need references to confirm the book-keeping experience you have is relevant.
