Just waiting for my results from ICB computerised 3 then can get practice licence and start working! Now comes the hardest part... thinking of what to call myself!
Looking for tips on how you came by your names, I thought initials, however, mine are LEN which doesnt sound right as a business name (plus we may actually be able to afford to get married one of these days!).
I want something thats traditional, not too quirky. I've had a look through Yell.com in my area and they are mainly peoples names or just simply Bookkeeping Services.
Once I've got a name, my other half is quite good at design so should be able to make up logos etc, just the name is the key starting point.
(Just ignore that the posted where I got a bit stroppy with Ann... Bah humbug...).

I wanted to look more "traditional" as I live in a small market town, which has a lot of small businesses that like to deal with other local businesses. A lot of businesses are named after the street name, shows its local, but not too pretentious calling the business after the name of the town. But mine is West End, my only concern about that is that alphabetically, I will be at the bottom of the list. Would that matter much nowadays?
I've managed to get 98-100% on all previous exams, just found the ICB Level 3 computerised much more difficult, will be really dissapointed with myself if I dont get a distinction :(
I'm planning on offering more than basic bookkeeping - payroll and self assesment (currently doing ICB payroll). What are the rules on names as I wont just be bookkeeping, but sort of partially accounting services. If I just call myself "ABC Bookkeeping" (example I am not planning on using that) it doesnt really encompass everything I will be offering
I too found it difficult coming up with my practice name recently. I also wanted the name to reflect more than basic bookkeeping and not be at the end of the alphabet whilst still complying with ICB.
The process I took may help you...
In the end I sent out an email to all my friends and family giving them a brief and asked for suggestions. It was great I got loads of suggestions, some gave me a good laugh, others innapropriate & so on. I then sent them all the list of suggestions without naming the contributor and asked them to vote on their top 3. From that it gave me a feel for how others percieved the names as I got comments too. From that research & my own on the web, etc... I managed to find a name that I felt really comfortable with to portray my business.
Lyndsey - there are different approaches to naming a business.
We decided to go for one word with two syllables (because the brain always shortens names that way). We wanted a name that indicated what we did it had to be friendly. Some like Crunchers, others don't.
