PAYE Reference number

This is a bit of a strange one, but I hoped someone might be able to help.

I am working on a self assessment tax return for a client who was employed for around 6 months by a company who then went into liquidation.  He has not received a P45 or a P60.  Is there any other way of finding a PAYE reference?

Thanks

Kris

Contact the Revenue Kris. They may ask you to make a written request these days. Did he have any colleagues who ever got a P60 or code notice that he could ask?
Regards,
Tim

you used to be able to write 123/unknown and put an explanation in the additional information stating what had happened. Not sure it still works but probably easiest way.

HMRC initially told me they couldn't help and I required to put in a paper return. This seemed like a step back so I did what I normally do when I don't like an HMRC answer, I phoned back and spoke to someone else who said I could use the code 000/N.

Got there in the end. Thanks for the help.
