Hi everyone, I just wanted to post a quick Hi. I have only just found your forum, and although I try not to do much bookkeeping these days, once a bookkeeper... always a bookkeeper.
I am sorry my first post was a little rant in the other section, but I just couldn't help myself. Sorry again.
Nothing wrong with a little rant as we all need to have a rant every now and then and no better place than a public forum, of course not everyone will share your opinion lol.
welcome to the Forum and glad you finally found us.
Don't worry about having the odd rant. I have an Anti Sage one an hour or so back.
It's a freindly and supportive bunch of people on here.
Don't be confussed by the site name. We're not just bookkeepers. We've got ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, IAB, IFA, ICB, AAT, ATT plus others on here as active contributors (not sure whether we've got any AIA's?) but unlike some other sites everyone speaks as equals and chips in where they can without any fear of ridicule.
Think of us as a sancturary from Aweb!
Anyway, off to read some of the other posts.
kind regards,
Shaun.

I can't believe the continual problems people have with it. I want to be able to coax my software like a majorettes with her mace or jimi hendrix on his guitar. I want to be able to delete any kind of entries, change the year end or product code at will and play it with my teeth on occasion.
Anything less is just obstructive and wouldn't get past the front door. As for the tax, I cannot understand how they've kept market share.
Thats my little rant, and I don't have to use the flippin' thing :o)
Using VT and then looking at the issues people have with Sage I just keep thinking that Sage is the next Lotus 1-2-3 in waiting. (remember when it was the product that was the market leader).
Now all we have to do is convince banks to stop giving Sage away free to new businesses, stop training companies making people believe that it's essential and spread the word to end users that there are better, more user freindly options out there.
I think that he ICB's already on board as they no longer expect their computerised exams to be completed using Sage software.
Although the above is said a little tongue in cheek if they don't improve their software to make it more user freindly, robust and intuitive then the tide will change on Sage as surely as it did when Excel happened to Lotus.
Shaun.

So, I'm possibly going to need to hide somewhere in a moment, but I actually like Sage. For all it's sins, when it works... it really does work. As a reporting tool, it can be very useful.
Careful Alison or we'll be promoting you to site Sage Guru.
Assuming that you accept then if a mob with pitchforks, torches, and a vat of tar and feathers turns up at your door just tell them that I said never mind

Come on tim, you cant beat a bit of muck spreading to clear your system.
Welcome Alison, i'm sure you'll be right at home soon. Cards on the table i hate sage too, not so much the software, but the company.

I have to correct myself, we do have a couple of firms who feel they are locked into sage due to their in-house invoicing/purchasing requirements (alternative suggestions welcome), and are not convinced it'd be feasable to change. We've weened them off payroll but not accounts software.
Don't worry, not everyone is ASL here just a shared passion for what we do, so I'm sure you'll be quite at home. I sometimes rant about other things as well, like the muck-spreading over the back that I was greeted with this this morning :o)
It was one of those 'you had to be there' moments! With the aroma at the back door this morning, I'd opt for a good vindaloo or colonic hydrotherapy lol
Well, when I say that I really mean that Alison, my new employee, is doing ok. I've spent most of the last month doing self assessments and marketing the business and she's been doing most of the bookkeeping.
I can certainly pull out the information I need, and if pressed I could process a transaction or two.
Well, I'll certainly put myself and Kris down as a couple of Reservoir dogs (No, don't even think about any Mr Pink jokes Dave!!!).
Very protective over he site and the profession as Alison saw when she joined just to have a go herself at a misconcieved post (so she won a million brownie points and a get out of jail free card immediately).
Looking forwards now to the Slow drivers thread.
