Hi everyone,

I am currently a student, doing Bussiness Economics, but i did Accounting and other things related in high scool for 4 years.

Now i want do develop my skills and improve my knowledge and i want to learn how to use SAGE because i've seen that a lot of jobs require Sage knowledge.

My questions are: is this the most used software on this topic in UK?

what should i start study in order to qualify for a job that requires SAGE (or other used software) from where to get it and how much does it cost?

Thank you for your time!

Anca

Hi Anca,

welcome to the forum.

Is Sage the most used software in the UK... Unfortunately yes. There is better more bookkeeper / accountant freindly software out there but at the moment Sage do have the lions share of the SME market with the likes of quickbooks as another commonly used option. And VT of course which is not so common but my practices software of choice.

For larger companies it tends to be SAP.

Pesonally I'm managing to run a small practice without Sage in my one man protest against the Sage client tax so it's not perhaps quite so essential as Sage would have us all beliieve.

For Sage training I would recommend 50 over instants. Training Link currently have a deal on for all three levels of certification for £245 which I just don't see how they can do it at that price as it's cheaper than buying the Sage 50 in a box courses from Amazon.

I'm told that Ideal schools are in the process of updating their site to offer Sage 50 but it's not been updated yet so don't know what prices they are offering. Similar story with Premier at the moment who again are only pushing Instant through their site.

Is the underlying question here "Will I find employment if I have Sage?".

Well, nothing is a guarantee of finding employment but on the grounds that anything that doesn't kill you makes you stronger I would advise that you take the distance learning course which will show commitment and prove competence even if Sage is not actually the software that you will eventually end up using.

Note that it is equally important that you learn to use Excel properly including Pivot table and lookips (V & H).

For finding employment you should also consider studying towards a professional qualification such as AAT or ACCA

kind regards,

Shaun.

Hello Anca

Welcome to the forum

There seems to be some confusion with what we provide for £245. Its is NOT Sage 50 Accounts, it is Sage 50 Accounts Pro which is totally different software to that of Sage 50 Accounts and much more expensive than that of the normal Sage 50 Accounts if purchasing the software. Sage 50 Accounts software retails at around £600 whereas Sage 50 Pro software retails at around £1200 it is the Latter which Training Link provides.

Hope this clears this up.

Dave

Hi Dave,

whether its 50 accounts or 50 accounts pro to my mind either it's an excellent deal that you've got on regardless. Pro just puts icing on the cake.

Anyway, c'mon Dave, you can tell us. We're all freinds and we won't tell anyone.

To get those prices on 50 rather than instant there's the empty burnt out wreck of a Sage truck somewhere not too far from the Training Link courses warehouse isn't there?

Hope that you're having a great weekend matey,

talk soon,

Shaun.
