I want to look more professional and have been thinking of doing myself a logo. At the moment I have just a claculator and my name and address in italics as my headed paper, saying that I don't have the need to send too much on headed paper. All my invoices are done on QB and although they look professional they don't have a logo on them, I know I can import a logo into QB as I did it for someone else.
So my question is does anyone know of any Freebie software on the internet that I could download and play around with to get myself a logo? I know of someone that can design me one, but to be honest fancy having a go myself. Art was one of my stronger subjects at school, and I would enjoy designing something for myself.
For something clean and simple try aaa logo (aaa-logo.com) they have a free trial version. There is an online one logomaker.com but I have never used this one.
Why not mess about in Word you'd be surprised at what you can draw. Years ago when I was teaching GCSE Business and Communication Systems part of the coursework was to make a company letterhead with a logo and some really professional ones were done just using Word.
Ideally, you'll be wanting to use something vector based. For logo work, I always use either one of two packages on an operating system called RISC OS, or a package from the original developers of one of those on Windows. Figuring that it's incredibly unlikely that you happen to be a RISC OS user, the Windows software is called Xara Photo & Graphic Designer. It's not free, but it's incredibly good value - around £70 IIRC. There might be a demo version you could try - can't remember. Take a peek on Xara's website.
Here's an example of something I created with it:
This is the logo for 'WebChange' - my main software package (designed as a tool for website maintenance). The web was hand drawn in Xara, then plonked behind the C.

Hi Amanda
Good advice as normal from the forum but have you thought about engaging a local designer?
In a way it's a bit like the services you offer........people can do tax returns, bookkeeping etc themselves but for a small fee they get a professional to do the work efficiently, quickly and correctly.
In my experience it will cost you the equivalent of one tax return for someone to give you a few designs in a ready to print format. As we say to our clients......you stick to plumbing and I'll stick to accounting.....in fact The quote in Kris's signature says it all.
....and you never know, you may just hook the designer as a new client!
Good luck,
Ken
I think if you are happy to design something and can create the concept that is one thing; however, you will need it in the appropriate formats (vector, as mentioned) in order that it can be expanded and shrunk etc. It will then also be suitable for print and web.
If you design it yourself you can expect to pay £20 to £50 to get it in the appropriate formats. I have a contact who may be able to help you if interested.
