It's nothing to do with your beautiful sheep avatar....it's referring to a video that Bob had on his site....to be honest I haven't even watched it! Shaun will prob fill you in on the details.
Newbie here-couldn't find any useful info on my quandary online so thought there might be some expert advice available here! Probably very late to the party, but have just found out about this RTI thing. I work for a very small charity (12 employees, mostly part time), and also do sub-contracted bookkeeping for various other small charities/companies. I process the payroll for these organisations using the HMRC Basic PAYE tools software, which does the job (though you have to create your own payslips etc) and more importantly is free. Having had a quick scan of the HMRC website, it appears that you can continue to use the HMRC software to submit RTI, but only if you have 9 or less employees. My only option, it appears, is to use paid payroll software which I really don't want to have to do as we're a charity and budgets are extremely tight. It does seem infuriating that I can't continue to use their software when we only have 12 employees-it's not like we're Tesco or something!
Does anyone have any suggestions, or should I just bite the bullet and put the cost of payroll processing software in my budget for next year?
For low cost PAYE, the almost universal recommendations on here and accounting web are 12Pay and Moneysoft. Both have a reputation for ease-of-use and Tom from 12Pay is regularly on hand with help on this forum.
There's lots of posts on the board about 'RTI' if you enter that in the Search facility above; and some juicy ones often involving one rabble-rouser in particular (sheepish grin).
Welcome to the forum and hope you find it useful and friendly.
You, a rabble rouser Tim.... Pah, amateur... Just get someone posting on here belittleing the accounting profession, I'll show you rabble rouser. (sheepish video, lol).
Hi Emma,
welcome to the forum.
When doing the search also search Universal Credits as that often goes hand in hand with the RTI threads (and is the real force behind the Government's thinking in the, We're going to save a pound, it may cost us twenty pounds to save it but that's from a different budget).
On the search front I often find it easier to use google search.
I always append -mobile as I don't like the mobile format site, only the PC one. Depending on your viewing device you may want to drop that last parameter,
kind regards,
Shaun.

I would use 12 Pay, its very cheap and easy to use, Tom is very good on here as well for support. I spoke to them today about RTI and there's will be automatic so no extra things to do providing HMRC work well and iron out any problems they may have with it when it starts.
Hi all Many thanks for your helpful advice, 12 Pay sounds like a good option. It is infuriating that HMRC can't be more helpful to very small businesses, but there we go. I'm also mildly annoyed that my years of perfecting a HMRC CD-Rom/spreadsheet combo have proved pointless Cheers Emma
