Companies that provide care in the community for the Elderly

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have clients that are companies that provide care in the community for the elderly?

The reason for asking is I was thinking of sending some marketing letters out to companies, as I have seen an increase in our area of companies going into old folks houses and caring for then or taking them out shopping etc?  Or what about care homes, there are a few of them near me as well, as they a good bet for clients?

What are peoples thoughts?

Many thanks,

PS - or would you stick to the tradesman?

Hi Sheila,

Many thanks for your reply, I remember when you got bitten by the dog, can't believe its nearly 3 years ago! How is your leg now, did it heal ok in the end? I may give them a miss for the time being as I don't want to be too bogged down in Payroll next year, and I can imagine with casual staff or odd hours it could get very time consuming with payroll.

It was only a thought as there are quite a few independent companies that go to peoples' houses and care for them at home, I keep seeing one particular one all the time.
I've got other things going on at the moment so maybe not such a good idea if they could end up a large job.

Many thanks for your input Sheila, hope court goes ok for you.

Hi Amanda

I assisted a company who did care in the community (it was the one where their dog bit me almost 3 years ago - I don't see them anymore as I'm about to take them to court). I didn't do the books just went in every couple of months to check everything was going OK as they had a young girl entering stuff on Sage. The books were really easy as they were mainly sub-contracted to a council so there was one invoice a month for the services to the council then regular weekly invoices for private clients. They were also a CRB umbrella company so did their own CRBs as well as charging other organisations for them. Major amount of work in this line is wages for the care workers - this will be even more onerous next year with RTI. Very little in the way of expenses.

I have one care home now, used to have two but I dumped one as it was operating unethically and I didn't want to be involved. The other I've helped for about 28 years. These can involve quite a lot of work as, particularly small ones (the large ones obviously have their own accountant etc) tend to have lots of supermarket receipts for food etc and use a lot of cash. There's no VAT though as they are exempt. The recording of fees and personal allowances can be complex as often the income for the fee can be made up of benefit payments (ESA, DLA, SP, PC), local authority contributions and client contributions (the latter invoiced to the client/relative/appointee).

HTH

It's times like these when PMs would be useful as I could

Sheila
