Getting authorisation as an agent HMRC nightmare!
Permalink Closed

disbelief All I am trying to do is get authorisation for a new client and the HMRC website keeps sending me in circles and coming up with registering as an agent.

We are already registered as an agent but wish to add a new client so we can get authorisation. I have got their new PAYE reference number and Accounts office reference number.

Can someone point me in the right direction please.

You just need to go to Online Services, log in using your User ID and password, and then go to 'authorise client' in the main menu and then 'request authorisation'.  You can then choose the service (PAYE, corporation tax etc) for which you want to become your client's tax agent.

Hi Kay

Don't know what you are doing but i usually go through my agent login, on your homepage select Authorise Client, then follow the instructions.

You must be an agent for the type of service you are offering PAYE, Self assessment, VAT, Corporation Tax etc. So if your are not an agent specifically for PAYE  you will not be able to do it.

Once you have completed the client set  up, they will be sent (ususally quite quickly) an authorisation code, which they give to you, and you then log back into you own login, and complete the process using the Enter Authorisation Code option

HTH
