Sage reports - customer/supplier specific file names
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone !

We're using Sage Instant Accounts to generate statements and remittance advice notes, sending both via e-mail, which seems to be working well with everything looking quite lovely with company logo integrated and other thrilling features - all jolly good

However, all of the reports (sent as pdf's) pick up the template file name as a default - is there an automated way that these can be made supplier or customer specific ?

I've found a lot of comments on-line about using expressions to pull in company names that can then be appended to fixed text to create such names, but there are no clear instructions on how to achieve this, and wading through the myriad options in Report Designer looks to be a very long way to go about doing things

I'm guessing that the "filename" button on the configure email settings > email settings tab is the key to all this, but the field is greyed out and steadfastly refusing any intervention to alter it

Be very grateful if anyone has some straightforward instructions as to how we might be able to sort this out - thanks in advance !

to clarify, I'd like to have the reports sent out as a pdf with the name "(CUSTOMER NAME) Statement.pdf" or "(CUSTOMER NAME) Remittance Advice.pdf" (with a creation date included, if possible) - appreciate that this can be done manually for each report, but hoping that there is a way to automate it....

Go into the report designer and load the report in question.

There should be a table of properties on the right - if there isn't go to the top menu and click "View -> Properties"

In the properties, look for "Email Options" and click on that to open it. In the window that opens, just over half way down (under "Attachment Format") should be a button labelled "Filename" - click on that. An "Expression Editor" window will open, and you can use this to create the type of filename you want.

good work that man - spot on - think I was coming at it from the wrong direction, so to speak, hence the "filename" window being resolutely greyed out; worked great once I was able to get in to the expression editor

thank you !
