Payroll Services - fees and details
Permalink Closed

Hi,

I have finished my Sage Diploma in Payroll Management and waiting for my results. I received a offer today from a company to do his payroll services. I am unaware of what fees should i charge and what details should i consider before accepting the offer. Where do we get the payslips? what other stationery i need to buy ? Overall i want a clear idea of what, how, when should i start.

Can anybody pls help me.

Thanks,

Yukti

Hi - well done for this - I never buy the stationery but PDF all the documents to the customer to print off. They then have a copy PDF for future use and have the printing. I would advise adding a password for this though.

Hi Yukti,

Congrats on completing your Sage Diploma. Well I wil suggest that you buy Sage payroll software from Sage. It won't be that expensive and you can start using it straight away as you already have experience. As far as stationery is concerned if your client wants printed payslip then you can also buy these from Sage otherwisw it's now a common practice to use PDF version of payslips.

Other factors you should consider before accepting the assignment should be:

1) How many employees are there?

2) Whether its a weekly, fortnightly or monthly pay roll?

3) It is normal ro charge £3 to £4 per payslip.

4) HMRC is completely changing the Payroll filing requirments. From April 2013 everything will be on Real Time Information where Employers' will have to submit monthly payroll returns to HMRC instead of doing it annually so please make sure you have the right software which is RTI enable.

Hope I have covered all your question but if you need more info then you can reply to this post or email me.

All the best mate.

Hi,

good reply but on option 3 that seems very high.

I cannot imagine any employer around my area willing to pay that sort of money per payslip.

Shaun.

Strange you should say that Shaun. I charge £7 for the first employee and £3 for each thereafter and I've never had anyone say it's too high yet. I don't charge for starters and leavers or year end though. It's horses for courses where prices are concerned.

You can get stationary from sage or cheaper from a lot of online stationary companies. We charge 3-4 pounds per payslip to just over 75 clients and it works fine. We offer deals for employers with 20+ employees which has lead to some of our most successful weekly processes.

The person I use for payroll charges me fixed annual fee of £50.  This is increasing to £110 with the introduction of RTI work from April (additional £5 per month) and thereafter

£2.50 per monthly payslip

£2 per fortnightly payslip

£1.50 per weekly payslip

I just recharge my clients what I get charged so can offer a payroll service.

So if business has one employee annual cost is £80 (£140 from April), and then £30 increase for each additional employee.

Im like Stewart - I have started offering a fixed annual fee thereafter a charge per payslip, this ensures I have the bulk of money at the start of year.
Well done on the Sage diploma, have you all other in place: practice license, insurance, mlr, agreements etc. in place too?
