Payroll suddenly taking NI when it hasn't previously

I have noticed on almost every company payroll I have ran there has been no NI deduction up until now. And large amounts! I have processed one persons payroll for November and it took £47.40. Then I ran it for December as there are no changes so thought I would get a head start and its now taken £120.00 in NI.

 

Have I done something wrong to make it do this or have they suddenly reached a threshold and the system is taking what they would have paid throughout the year? Kind of like how VAT works when you are unsure if you will reach the threshold until the last minute.

They are also Directors of the company.

They have just breached the contribution threshold and are now paying N.I.

I do not believe that there is anything to worry about here.
