AAT Course query - already have Level 2 IAB Manual Book-keeping.
Permalink Closed

Hi folks After a little advice, I currently hold a Level 2 IAB Certificate in manual book-keeping and was planning to complete Level 3. However I am struggling a bit at home and would really like to learn in a classroom environment. Unfortunately unable to find any classroom courses and so my husband suggested I start from scratch with AAT. My local college offers Level 2 Certificate in Accounting and Level 3 Diploma (AAT) and these are part-time courses and take a year each to complete. They also offer a full time course which is one year long and gives you both Level 2 and Level 3 in one year, this also starts in September. They also offer an in house course 'Introductory Accounting' which is fairly fast paced but does not cover the computerised aspect from AAT Level 2 or the 'Working effectively in Accounting'. On completion of this I could then start the Level 3 dolma in September. This is an 11 week part-time course and I could also run along side it a Computerised Accounts Level 1. My end result is to get some qualifications that could help me towards a career in a finance dept whether that be book keeping, purchase or sales ledger or even credit control. I am just after advice on which route you think I should take, as I already have level 2 IAB Manual book-keeping will it matter of I don't have the Level 2 AAT but just the Level 3 diploma. Your thoughts please.

I'll let others more experienced comment on difference with regarding IAB and AAT. Just wanted to say that Working effectively in Accounting is a waste of time, if you have any common sense or experience in the work place (in pretty much any sector), then you have no problem missing it.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I must admit I had thought that myself. It's the computerised module that I am wondering about, I am now trying to find out what software the college use for the Computerised Accounts Level 1 as the website does not say.

Still interested to here from other members.

99.9% it'll be Sage. Since they teaches AAT L2 Computerised Accounting, which is Sage, I don't see them teaching a different software for their other qualification.

Oh duh! Good thinking Batman!

I think possibly I will sign up for the introductory courses. Thenonlynthing I need to find out now is exactly when they stop and start. The introductory is an 11 week course and the tutor said it was important not to miss a week, it starts on 10th Jan and I go on holiday 30th Mar. Do colleges have half term I wonder ? I might see when the next round start, it might be more practical to join after Easter if they run a third session.
