Just a quick question.... I have been working as a self employed bookkeeper for about 18 months, up until now I have only filed self assessments for self employed bods. Today I was asked if I was able to file Corporation tax for a client that no longer is in business but is still required to fill out his yearly return because he has an outstanding balance owing to HMRC. I am qualified to AAT Technican standard and studied, sat and passed (1st time) the corporation tax paper - does this mean I am allowed to file for Corporation tax?
I always worry as to how much I am actually qualified to complete work wise, I've looked online but don't seem to find out any information of what I can and can't do, but then hear of people that are bookkeepers with no qualification whatsoever so maybe think that I'm OK with most aspects.
Anyone can submit a CT return, regardless of qualification (a few caveats to that but generally true). Its more if you feel confident to do it. I only deal with the simplest of CT computations and filing
You do need to be registered as an agent (or use the client login if they have one). You do not need special software but you will need to download from HMRC a specific bit of software linked to the registered company.
Thank you for your reply this has been a great help. From hearing that the business isn't actually active, i'm sure that it should be quite straight forward (we live in hope).
