basically what paid resources do we subscribe to.
Well, that can be read two ways. Do I pay for anything from my own pocket. Yes.
Do I get get stuff through my company, Yes.
Do I get lots of free stuff... Hell yes.
I buy books, lots of books (currently seven full size bookcases full) on bookkeeping and accountancy mostly from my own pocket (The business pays for the annual tax books as they are a necessity of the business where other text books are a necessity of study towards ACCA which is not a deductible expense until ACCA membership is a necessity of my business (i.e. when I run my business under an ACCA practicing certificate)).
To be honest there isn't a great deal of necessity to part with money for access to most sites and those that do require paid membership on the whole don't tend to last very long (and for that reason we accept the advertising).
The only site that I actually pay money to is this one
I also receive newsletters from bodies that I am associated with (and pay towards - ACCA from my own pocket, IFA from the business) :

BUT
I am also a full access member of / receiver of :

With all those free resources why pay for anything? (I don't have time to read all of the stuff that I get already!).
So, all in all, make of the above what you will. Its the facts without being a straight answer to your question.

Like Shaun I buy a load of books myself. I don't pay for any online resources, I dont really see any great need. I did buy the bookcert kit out of my own pockets.
If you are interested enough in something I think you will want to read as much as you can about the topic, I don't think it matters if you need to pay or not.
I have my books that were part of my studies, others i have "inherited/picked up" from various sources for free. But generally i dont pay for anything, except for the AAT and ICAEW magazines, which i have to subscribe to as it is part of my membership. If there was an option to pay less and not receive them i would.
There is that many free resources out there (this site being one of them) i cant see that i would, unless it is for a very specific project, and then it would be a rarity.
