SITE PROBLEMS - UPDATE
Permalink Closed

As it is unlikely that anyone will be able to see any responses in the other thread I'm going to have to post a new thread for each update that I report (I'll merge / delete them all after).

Steve has been informed of the issues including those reported by Bill and Donna.

The site is sick.

 - Some people are posting new posts multiple times as for some threads are not showing up

 - Answers to posts are marked as existing but on entering the thread the response is not visible (although it generally appears after about an hour or briefly if you post a reply).

 - If you post a reply it is visible in the thread whilst you are in it. Come out and go back in again and it has gone for a hour or so.

 - There seems to be an issue with people being told to log back in when they try to post a reply.

 - For some posts are not being marked as read unless physically marked as read

 - If you look at thread where the reply is made but has not yet appeared the thread is (in most cases) marked as read so when the reply does appear no notification is given that a response exists

There are probably other issues as well.

Steve passes on his appologies for the inconvenience caused by this and assures us that his techie wizards have been looking at this since yesterday..... but so far no progress (apparently standing in front of a server bank waving a white board pointer whilst shouting Expelliarmus just seems to make things worse).

I will keep everyone informed but for now the sites a bit broken.... This had to happen in January didn't it!

Good luck out there people.

Shaun.

Seems to be a problem with Aboveboard servers. Their aggressive caching seems to be disagreeing with some browsers. I have to say though, using google chrome and not noticing any issues.

Here is what the forum developers are saying about it:

We are currently experiencing a minor caching issue with our servers. In order to keep our forums loading the fastest on the internet, we do a lot of aggressive caching of content on pages. A recent update to a few popular web browsers was leading to some incorrect caching, which meant that it looked like: Posts were disappearing, Invalid key errors, Posts not appearing when they should, Posts published in the wrong order, etc. A fix has already been issued online. Since it takes around 7 days for cache on our servers to expire, you might still experience some issues until then. In the meantime, to view your threads properly, please use the "force reload" function on your web browser to refresh (Hit Shift+F5 or CTRL+F5 on you keyboard). An alternative would be to clear your browser cache every time.

And following on from Kris's update just heard from Steve who hot from chatting with the techies echoed the same information as Kris.

The issue is with the updates to certain browsers. (So is anyone having an issue that is not using Firefox?).

The fix as Kris says has been applied but will take up to seven days to cycle out (probably just in time for Firefox V19!).

In the meantime, if you go into a thread where you know that there should be additional entries that are not showing hit either Shift+F5 or CTRL+F5 to refresh the cache and the missing posts will show. (CTRL+5 works on mine, Shift+F5 doesn't).

The fault is working it's way out but there is nothing that can be done to apply an immediate total fix and it's just a case that those affected need to work with the issue for a few days until it's completely cycled out.

All in all, the site is actually healthy and nothing to worry about.

Thanks again for the update Kris. You beat the techie team to getting the answer to the site by best part of a day.

kind regards,

Shaun.
