Opening Balance on Comapnies House Form

I think I am going insane.  I am trying to fill in the form for Companies House (already late because of this problem!).  I have filled in all the relevant information but I can't work out what figure is required to go on the opening balance for the previous year.  Where on my balance sheet does this figure come from?  I can't seem to get it right - I assumed it was the figure from the previous year's profit and loss account - but where then do I show the loss from the previous year?
