I'm in the same old conumdrum about which Association to go with, ICB, IAB or AAT. I plan on working from home so would definitely be going down the bookkeeping route.
So while searching around I found this site, which I must say is excellent. After reading all the old 'which one to go for' threads I thought I had more or less made my mind up and settled on ICB. Now we all know that first impressions count and I must say that ICBs website is putting me right off them. I struggle to get the home page loaded never mind the forum etc. Not exactly the image I would aim for!
So while they seem to be the quickest route to take in regards to setting up a business should I ignore the alarm bells ringing with their cheap hosting?
I've just gone to their website and their forum website and didn't notice delays with either. I know their forum months back was so slow it was unusable. But it's ok lately.

Whilst I'm not pushing ICB as the way for you to go (that's a different question and done lots of times on the site) I've just tried it myself and there were no problems at all.
Just to clarify.
this is the address that you are going to isn't it : http://www.bookkeepers.org.uk/
If so, are you having issue with any other sites?
Have to recently plugged any new peripherals into your router / PC. I had a problem last week in that my HP printer which runs from the router was causing issues with load times. When I switched it off everything ran great, switch it on and it seemed like back to the bad old days of 56k dial up.
Only other thing that I can think of is are all of your plugins for your browser up to date?
For info, I'm using firefox 18.0.2, Java Platform 10.5.1.255, Shockwave Flash player 11.5.502.149

Everything's up to date and I've tried in Firefox, IE and my tablet. I could understand it being a problem at my end if I had similar troubles with other sites but it just seems to be with http://www.bookkeepers.org.uk/Forum/ , like I said I do get the main site pages to load but it takes a good 30 seconds and sometimes I have to reload 3-4 times to get them.
Hi there, have just this minute signed up to the forum so i could comment on this issue. I have an ICB Practice Licence and was in the habit of regularly using the website and the forum - but not any more. I can't get the webpages to load properly either - i have spoken to the ICB helpdesk and they told me that every thing was fine. Its a relief to hear others complain of problems - i now know i'm not going mad!
I will call the ICB and let them know others are having similar problems. This aside, i rate the ICB quite highly!!
This is a more open site anyway than the ICB forum as you don't have to be a member of the ICB to comment on anything where of course over there non ICB members are restricted to commenting in the introductions area effectively meaning that accountants are unable to answer technical queries where people are stuggling.
I've mentioned this to James before but there seems no sign of the ICB changing their policy of only allowing people to comment who have something to lose.
Actually, thinking about it, he's not been back on this site since I said that.
But I digress.
Hope that you enjoy posting over here,
looking forwards to chatting,
kind regards,
Shaun.

I wouldn't mind if this forum had (like many other forums) a "go to newest post" on a thread. Especially in a thread that you return to a lot. I know I could have the latest posts at the top of the thread. I'm just so used to the threads being oldest first it would confuse me if this was the only forum I sorted thread in such a manner.

Thanks for the comment Bridgford Books, like you said I thought I was losing it along with the hair.
I've actually went and signed up for their basic bookkeeping course for free, thanks to Alex Salmond and the ILA funding - nice to know it's not just free medication and home care we get up here lol!
But I'm not sure if I'll be sticking with them with their it's not us it's your fault response to BBs complaint.
Genius. Why didn't I think of that? Three years on the forum and I haven't noticed that before.
ETA : Just realised. It is a different thing from other forums. On other forums it takes you to the last post you read so you can start reading the new posts. This one takes you to the last post. Better than nothing I suppose.

Cheers Tim but don't think that I've got any site tips to swap that you won't have found already to repay the hint.
