I have recently completed my Diploma in Payroll Management. I am looking for jobs in Newcastle or around. I am also ready to do unpaid work to gain some experience. can also work online / Tutor support. In all i am looking for any unpaid jobs related to Payroll where in i can gain some practical experience. Can somebody guide me what to do?
Have written to few accountants here asking for voluntarry work but haven't heard from them.
Would be grateful if someone can guide me in proper direction.
give up on the idea of unpaid. Employers are not allowed to take on workers for no money. If employers are looking for someone then they will pay, if they are not looking for anyone then they would not be interested even if you offer your services for free as free comes with the condition that they will need to spend time teaching you.
Contact local and national recruitment consultants about getting entry level temp jobs in Payroll. The data entry level of the work may be below your level of learning but everything is experience for starters and the more experience you gain the more employable you become.
learn as many different packages as you can (Sage, Iris, 12pay, moneysoft, etc. basically try out all of the free trials and completely free versions of software (one at a time) The likelihood is that employers taking on temps will have bespoke packages but the more packages that you can use the more confident that they will be employing you.
Learn as much as you can about RTI as payroll as it exists now is being replaced from the start of April. (Don't use the HMRC site as your primary learning source as they are looking at the whole thing through rose tinted spectacles. Check out the posts on here and accountingweb to prepare yourself for interview)
Good luck with the job search and don't forget to keep us informed as to how things go.
kind regards,
Shaun.

Many Thanks for your reply Shaun. RTI is also one of the reason i am looking for unpaind. I studies 2011-12 Payroll and now i see RTI coming up. It seems its a hard luck for me. Actually i have a 5 yr maternity break which is a negative point in my CV. Till now i have applied in many places, but all they require is experience. I have applied every where i could my my 5 yr break seems to be not giving me interviews. Will keep that point in mind of learning different packages... that i guess will b a great help.
Reed have just text me about a 'Facilities Helpdesk Assistant' position. Looks like all my hard work over the past couple of years has been completely ignored lol.
:( So i cannot expect jobs in Payroll def now looking at my 5 yr break, which is obviously worth learning. Reed only text me twice and then no sign of T from Text..lol.. Finding it so tough. Thought this course would help me after my break as it also supports my Bachelors Degree.

That will be the new name for call centre operative will it?
I think thats assistant to the call centre operative Steve.
Don't you all love that statistics say that there are now loads more jobs.... Where.... Who comes up with these statistics... I bet that it's some numpty in whitehall thinking. ok, 2000 people have just set up new bookkeeping businesses. Each of those new small businesses will need at least ten people working for them so there's 20k new jobs straight away just proving that our policies are working.
Cynic moi!
Actually I think that there must be some areas of the country seeing recovery... Just not the one that I'm in. (and I don't think Yukti's area of Newcastle fares much better than the sunny Midlands).
Got to the point with me that I'm thinking whats the point in being in business here when now non of my cleints are (I've not lost them, they just all seem to have migrated to Scotland) and the only businesses that are setting up are new bookkeepers (the laws of supply and demand seem lost on the market here).

My sister got a degree in human resources, she couldn't get a job anywhere, hundreds of applications, hundreds of interviews and nothing. The reasons given were always no experience blah blah. One day she went to an interview and when they came to asking about experience she told them she had acquired a degree whilst having and bringing up children and running a busy household, the job would be simple in comparison. They offered her the job and off she went, never looked back and is now very high up in a mining company in Australia, earning very good money.
It might be worth taking that tack at some point as you have nothing to lose, she did it out of sheer desperation.

It should do. I get the impression that hirers are erring on the side of caution and only going for experience. You need a good blag, a reason for them to hire you regardless of specific experience.

You wont believe what I did.... I filled a application form yesterday for a school admin officer and they asked for two recent employer ref and also recent job details... I stated my last employer and my tutor as references but in the recent job i stated FULL TIME MUM and few roles that comes with it. I was really so frustrated at that time that m not getting a single response from anywhere for Payroll. Yeah i applied for Voluntary Finance Assistant in a Charity shop, for which i got an immediate reply. Just stuck everywhere now.
I wonder what percentage of advertised vacancies are actually real?
I still feel that no matter what your profession it's who you know and not what you know.
Makes me wonder the same. I guess 90% of the vacancies are for the work permit purpose. i feel such vacancies should have some tag on it or a special color font for it so that ppl like us dont just keep hopes from them...
I am actually thinking to update myself for RTI and start services on my own.. Does it really matter if i have no practical experience? Am still not sure where to start how to start but i seriously feel that finding the right job is going to be really difficult. Does anybody offer Payroll services here? Can you help me with the basic first please? I promise you i wont take your clients :)
I enjoyed reading your posts, i don't mean this to sound horrible but i'm glad (and i wish you all the best) that i am not alone in trying to secure some form of work experience.
It just makes me feel that i may be doing everything right and within my power if others are experiencing the same hardships.
That sounds awful doesn't it, i don't mean it to.
I actually know a student who has struggled with AAT and is desperately stuck on level 4. I helped her plan her CV and she has since gone on to secure 2 separate jobs as accounts assistant in the motor trade. I have been in the motor trade for donkeys years and still don't get a reply from these positions.
Wow... so u were a Good luck for her :) Give some of your luck to me too and i will send mine to you :) though i dont seem to have any :( . Am surprised hw did the student get 2 jobs and you got none if you have so much experience??? Hmm i find no reason.
I just googled for some ideas to start Payroll services from home . Lol i sound so desperate to gain experience.
I seriously feel that there is something wrong either in my CV or the job adverts. While doing Diploma in PM i was very sure that i will get a job soon after i finish.... but :'( Can't get a interview either. Grrr am i sounding insane?trying job and own services together?
The funniest part in adverts is all require Payroll candidates with experience.......... how will ppl like me get a job if everybody looking for experienced candidates?
I understand what situation you are in cze i think we are sailing in the same boat.
Newcastle don't deserve me....lolz Thats the way i try to cool myself.
:( :( Feels so :@ when such things happens.. sorry.. ....... its not experience that matters.... its luck or may b timing..... May b the time when the interviewers hired her, they might just had a coffee!!
