RTI Processing - Problem with staggered process/pay date
Permalink Closed

Morning All,

I'm hoping others may have the same situation with clients that have historically processed weekly payroll this way??

I have clients where the work that is completed by employees in a given week (say the week of Mon 01.04.13 to Friday 05.04.13) would be paid the week after on the 12.04.13 but historically the payslip date would be the 05.04.13 (calculated up to date), and I dont get the timesheets until the 09.04.13

The problem I have is that if I attempt to process that scenario now, If I keep the processing date as the 05.04.13, Im running the wages on the 09th  (once I get timesheet) if I keep the processing date as the 05th, when I submit my FPS, Ill be in breach of RTI rules, as Im submitting 4 days late.

But if I change the processing date to the 12th (day they get paid) then basically Im missing a week out as nothing will be shown for the 05.04.13, so Ill be missing a weeks payroll data.

Hope that makes sense

Hoping others have run into the same problem.

Many Thanks

You need to miss a week. PAYE should be processed as of the date of Payment or the date when the work is done, whichever comes last.

I think I'm on the edge of a nervous breakdown!

Does this mean that if my processing date is Monday 8th April but the client pays staff on a wednesday that my processing date should be changed to wednesday 10th so its the same day as the FPS?

 Correct.

That has always been the case. It is nothing to do with RTI. RTI is pulling issues like this out of the woodwork. Payment cannot be later than processing date.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the explanation, Just so Im clear, with my above dates, by me missing out the processing date of the 05th and jumping to the 12th, the client will be saving themselves a weeks worth of Employers NI, as the week 53 wont be processed now?

Have I understood that correctly ?

Many Thanks
