Letter to accountants for work - can anyone have a look and tell me what they think please?
Permalink Closed

Hi I have drafted up a letter which I want to send out to accountants looking to sub-contract work. I tried this a few years ago and got a bit of interest but not much work. The letter I sent wasn't very thought out or put together well so I have decided to send another one out again, trouble is I've read and re-read it to many times now and would really like someone to read over it and tell me what they think.

If you have a spare 5 minutes to read over the letter, please let me know and I will email it to you.

Thanks in advance for your help

Rachel

From the perspective of one who receieves quite a few of these rateher than sending them myself send it to me as though you were sending it to an accountant.

we've covered on the site before how letters don't get through because accountants get too many so just reject all of them but on the off chance that one does get past the secretary to where it needs to be as you say you don't want it falling down because it says the wrong things or the right things in the wrong way.

Personally I'm one of the unusual cases who does actually reply to those who have taken the time to send in a letter written specifically for me and my business (but I never reply to letters that are just mail shots to all accountants in the area as thats just a lazy casting of the net to see if you catch anything and it doesn't matter what).

I may not get chance to look at the letter properly today but should get somethng back to you with any suggested improvements inside 48 hours.

kind regards,

Shaun.

p.s. worry not. my spelling and grammar is better when I'm working with word (which is definitely the dyslexics friend) than my replies on the site

Cheers Gary,

lol at the grammar line. I think that occassionally mine come out as though it's Yoda attempting to write a reply!

Like yourself I use firefox on all of my machines.

For some reason the XP machines do a spell check but the W7 ones don't? (go figure). Which would explain why the spelling at least is better when I'm using the office rather than home office machines,

I've brought on e of the machines back from the office so I'll have a play around later and see if there is some default setting that I can find that if different between them.

kindest regards,

Shaun.

Hi Rachel,

Fire it over to me I'll have a look. I did this a few years ago, I had little response, although I now know a few through clients and networking so talking to accountants does work. It may take a while so be patient.

Email address on my profile.  I will have a look for my copy from a few years ago and then I can compare them.  I kept mine brief and to one page as I didn't want to bore the pants off them!

If you haven't had a response from any of our Accountant friends yet, I'll gladly give it a once-over on condition I can crib from it when I want to write to them too!

I think you can message me through the website.

Iain

Shamus, what browser do you use? I use firefox and downloaded a dictionary for it (plugin)... It spell checks as you type and underlines just like word does... Worth trying... As for grammar, cant help there i cant! LOL ;)

Sorry I realised I never replied to this thread, thank you everyone though. I sent the letter off to around 80 accountants, about 30 had retired (contact details still in the yellow pages) and most of them wrote or emailed back with we'll keep your details on file etc. I now have quite a lot of work from one of them, which is great so was definitely worth doing even for one reply.
Thanks again for your replies
