Study/Work book difference?

Hi,

They used to be seperate in all instances but the following modules they seem to have been merged :

- Work Effectively in Accounting and Finance
- Computerised Accounting
- Spreadsheet Software
- Internal Control and Accounting Systems

Which are all pretty much too short to warrant seperate texts.

Actually, on that last one if that doesn't warrant two books then AAT are doing something wrong as that should be quite a meaty topic going into corporate governance, ethics, risk and management psycology... Bet it doesn't though with the AAT version.

But I digress.

Kaplan still do them as seperate texts or you could buy older BPP texts from Amazon resellers... Unlike things like tax, working effectively is not going to change that much year on year.

kind regards,

Shaun.

p.s. I personally prefer Kaplan to BPP

Hey guys, another pretty 'noob' style thread from me.

Im just looking at buying the book for the Work Effectively in Accounting and Finance module, and am looking at BPP books as I have the whole way so far. Slight issue being the books for the 3 modules so far have been the 'Study Text', whereas the only book BPP seem to produce for WEAF is a 'Work Book'.

Just wondering if it amounts to the same thing? Or whether the 'Work Book' is more a revision thing, and whether I should look at Kaplan or somebody to see if they do a 'Study Text'.

Cheers.

The ICAS project DOES go into those 4 subjects Shaun. The project itself is open to interpretation, you can write quite a basic report and cover all the criteria. It really is set out to make you use the knowledge you have gained from using other material as well as the study/revision texts throughout the years of study.

I did the project as my last exam/assignment and at first thought that i had dropped a boob as the marking time in between submissions made the report a 3 month drawn out last exam. I am now glad i did do the project last as it gave me a chance to show off (even if it was to myself) the knowledge and skills i had gained throughout the whole period of study.

It was quite enjoyable after i got over the initial hurdle, which was how not to write a report in working class Manchester dialect lol.

Hi Neil,

I appreciate that the AAT covers the subjects but my concern was that the Internal Control and accounting systems module didn't cover the internal control framework which is an area that can really be meated out and could justify a study text all of its own.

It even gets its very own mention in the title of one of the ISAs (315) showing that it's not just one of those things thrown into the syllabus to justify the cost of longer lectures.

From what you say it sounds as though they have just taken it out of the book that would seem the obvious place to put it and slipped it into another text.

I can just see the brain storm at AAT HQ now...

"Do you think that we should put internal control in this book entitled internal control?".

"No, thats what they would be expecting".

Internal Control is another one of those areas where I memorised the framework and it never come up.... Can I do the list... Can I, Can I, Can I...

Ah, that makes sense actually, I scrolled through one of the past assessments for WEAF and it did seem content-light so it would seem a shorter module than the others off that basis.

To be honest, with the BPP/Kaplan choice I moreorless closed my eyes and picked one. I mostly figured on keeping the cost of study as low as I can for Level 2, and then if needs be I'd look into buying multiple books for each module at the later levels, when further reading around the subject would presumably be of greater help.

Thanks, off to Amazon I go!
