Accountex June 2013 Goodies

Hello !

I`ve said I`ll be back with some fresh news from Accountex.

I am not trying to sell anything, this is not advertising, If I am allowed,

I will just shortlist some of the things that I`ve found interesting such as:

1. inStream from Celaton. Replace the bookkeeper with automated data entry. Just have to scan the document and the data goes straight to the accounts software eg Sage.

2. Cloud solution for clients: Exact Online, Kashflow

3. Docusoft Document management

4. Ltdonline2.com company formation and company secretarial software packages

5. Digita Starter Pack from Thomson Reuters All the software you need in one package for tax returns for individuals, sole traders, partnership, companies.

As you can see 1 and 5 replace major time spent by bookkeeper and accountant.

Q: Will this reduce the number of accountants on the market ?

See you soon,

Adrian

Call me a cynic but there is invariably a quantum gap between the sales pitch and the reality.

By the time that the free trials are over, some of the good ones will float. Some will not find a market and disappear, all of those that don't do as they promise will die horribly.

Will accountancy as we know it change?.. No

Will accountants find tools to save themselves time and thereby reduce costs and improve the bottom line?... Bet your bottom dollar on it.

For all the hype that you hear / read / see there is nothing that can replace the client facing, hand holding of professionals who take up to ten years passing the exams and come to the table with the experience that clients need.

Some software companies do not see that... They would be the one's in the crash, burn and die horribly category of this years selection of "you absolutely must buy this or your business won't survive" offerings.

Hi Adrian

Thank you for coming over to the Optegra Stand at Accountex - Sorry I was not there when you visited but my colleagues mentioned you.

I think the event is very useful for all bookkeepers and accountants to see what is happening in the industry, also to stay ahead of the competition with new tools and ideas. not only that but many hours of CPD are available too... footfall was circa 4,000 accountants & bookkeepers over the 2 days. Many people visited both days which is testament to the content and exhibitors there.

We have agreed to exhibit again next June as it is a great event for us to showcase our latest developments - very smart one coming soon which I will share here when ready...

The overriding factor for me is the number of applications designed to save time for everyone involved in accounting. The tools available for data entry & reporting these days do save time in the mundane processes we are all aware of...

This means you can spend more time with your clients and less time at your desk. We all know client relations are key and you can be sure that in this competitive market those of us who spend quality time with our clients wont lose out.

Yes there are some that wont work for everyone, but then there are some that really do.. (OptegraMRP obviously eg, If you have not seen OCrex then I really suggest you do if you are fed up of manual data entry from bank statements) I have no affiliation at all but it is an incredible tool and one that my clients use also.

I do agree with Shamus "there is nothing that can replace the client facing, hand holding of professionals who take up to ten years passing the exams and come to the table with the experience that clients need" This will never change, the time you take to prepare their information can be reduced.

Will keep everyone up to date of developments and if I see any other tools that could be beneficial to the members I will shout.

Anyone else going to come next June..?

Cheers

Jeremy

Many thanks Shaun and Jeremy,

For me Accountex was a great way to meet some interesting people and to have an idea about what I will do next.
I think this is a great exhibition and the fact that is free is a big plus.
I have met accountants from all over England. There was so much information around that there was quite hard to see everything or to attend to all seminars.

One of the ideas that Paul Dunn presented was "The client is interested why are you doing this ? " The client wants to know why have you choose to be an accountant and why should the client choose your services and not other company.
The answer was very clear, an accountant has to love what he/she is doing and also to love meeting and talking with people.

Hope to see you next time Jeremy and Shaun at the exhibition.

Have a great day.

Adrian

Yeah I'll be there next year.  Could have been there this year as wife is still hanging on with the birth of our fourth kid but was a bit to close for comfort.

Also given was there in November also felt was too soon in coming around being only 8 months later (though agree with the reasoning for moving as June is a more reasonable time than November with pressures of tax returns and March year ends.)

As said will definitely be there next year to see what is latest developments.

Can only echo Jeremy's sentiments re Ocrex.  I have used it for a client that is bank statement intensive and it signficantly cut down the analysis and posting time.

Thanks Jeremy & Adrian, biggrin

OCRex exhibited at Accountex for the second year running. It was a huge success for us.

There was an extra 1000 delegates in attendance compared to last year which was very impressive. Our team completed over 120 demonstrations of AutoRec software which was great.

AutoRec is accounts preparation software for accountants in practice dealing with incomplete records clients.

Basically AutoRec allows you to scan in bank and credit card statements and it creates a spreadsheet for you. It effectively takes away the manual data entry. It can also identify presented and missing cheques. You can export the data and import into your accounts production software such as Sage, IRIS, CCH, VT, Xero, Digita and many more.

If you didnt have time to see a demonstration of AutoRec, arrange one for you and your practice today. Simply click here today.

OCRex has booked our stand for next year and were looking forward to 2014 already.
