RTI for small businesses
Permalink Closed

Hi

Someone just told me that "SME's are not now required to operate RTI until April 2014. " (And no, it wasn't a

bloke down the pub !)

Has anyone else heard this ?

Just to emphasise in addition to Michelle's link.

The person telling you this is wrong.

The relaxation does not mean RTI is optional its just the timing of FPS's / EPS's so that reporting only happens once a month rather than before payment is made.

I think that this should be a permanent fix, not something only applicable for the smallest companies until next April.

It does not mean that RTI can be ignore until April.

Here was the Aweb chat about it :

hmrc has a good rti system, so far I've only used it for nil returns, can't comment on using it to do wages, I have been doing it for my company. Use sage payroll for doing wages so far.

When I saw the above news item of 23rd July, I thought it might be something new. It is just what Tom of 12 Pay described on here as only applying to a tiny minority of employers who pay more often than they calculate PAYE.

It is very annoying that this tiny concession keeps rearing its head again, and being reported by a compliant media as if it were a giant concession by HMRC. It is a real problem that employers read it and think that they're off the RTI hook when they're not.

Hi Tom,

interesting difference of opinion between HMRC and the National Audit Office on the dubious success of the RTI pilot.

Sure that you've read it but if not and you fancy a laugh at HMRC's positive spin on absolutely everything have a look here :

HMRC survey which dwells on the 'on or before' requirement burden and has been extended to 20th September.

Cheers Tim, just filled it in.

Shame there wasn't an option to say "Do you expect to dump Payroll as a service to clients because the Government has f**ked it up totally and its not worth your time or effort to be involved with such a complete mess that was designed by a hundred blindfolded monkeys undable to understand anyone's protestations that this whole idea was a really, really bad one and there was nothing wrong with the previous system".

or even "Would you personally employ anyone who has been involved in the development and implementation of RTI"

Plus maybe "Would you consider RTI a bigger mess than IR35".

My view is that RTI has given us the system that we need for the 1950's.... Shame that we are now in the next century and professionals do not work or get paid that way anymore.

bah humbug....

p.s. Hi Tim.

ROFL...... Shaun write us a macro to find the longest sentence on the forum ^

You couldn't have expressed my sentiments better - In a handful of years, that information might easily be available to his agent but not 'before' he has paid it.

Best wishes,
Tim
