I seem to remember a post a while back saying that a prospective client rang to ask about bookkeeping services then went on to talk to the bookkeeper as if they were a new employee starting saying how many hours/days they would be working and what hourly rate they would be on. And the client couldn't distinguish between someone who was self employed and an actual employee.
When I was doing bookkeeping from home I had a prostitute ring up and thought someone was pulling my leg. She was actually very serious!
Haha I thought so too. Apparently because she was working from premises and not soliciting it was legal! As long as she didn't employ anyone or have anyone else working on the premises because then it would have been a brothel. It was very interesting however as some of these things don't tend to come up alot!
Classy, I know of someone who's an escort (no, I haven't) & freely advertises that she does more than go to dinner dates with people. I always thought that that was illegal in this country but it's not because she puts it all over twitter & she's even got the police as followers due to some problems she had a while back.
I'm keen to see how this progresses, some of the replies might be brilliant
Client a; Can you work quickly so I pay less?
Client b; Oops, that purchase on ebay was for a toothbrush... I guess I can't claim for that then?
Client c; Do I really have to show you my bank statement?
And that's just whilst I've been self employed. I have many stories of working in corporate too... but that's for another day :)
Had a client once (past tense) who always left a carrier bag full of just about everything on my doorstep, well as usual there it was on my doorstep again, had told him not to do it because anyone could have just walked off with it. Anyway a few days later he phoned me up in a panic and asked if his flight tickets were in the carrier bag, I hadn't gone through it yet so I hadn't actually found them, so I told him I would look and call him back. Sure enough amongst all his receipts, cheq books, etc was 2 virgin flight tickets to USA. what a plonker was my thought!! He was useless with paperwork so I wasn't surprised that I found them.
