I'm having a nightmare. I took some stuff to the accountants a couple of weeks ago including a copy of Sage. I got the pen drive with it all back this morning & wrongfully thought that the person who'd been dealing with it had put a copy of Sage on it with some changes. I tried to restore that & it asked me to log in so I put my details in & it's saying I'm entering an invalid logon name. I've also tried using manager but it seems that has had a password entered & I don't know it. I've tried to open a recent back-up but that hasn't worked either.
The person who previously worked on the accounts left in December & isn't reachable. If I remember right she set herself up as a main user & me as a less important 1 (can't think of the terms because it was ages ago, it's Monday & I'm still a little bit hungover).
As a last resort if you copy the file setup.dta from your demo data directory into your company one this will change the password for manager to nothing. So you can then login using Manager and no password, this will also reset your company name though so you will need to re-enter it.
Have you got Sage support? They could probably help you? Or ask the accountant if he had a list of the persons passwords? Or google 'sage password problems' - good luck.
Had no joy with any of the above but thanks for the suggestions. I couldn't log in at all so copying files from the demo version wasn't an option & the bitch had entered a password for the manager account & done one without telling anyone it. I didn't have Sage support & our accountants used to keep notes of passwords on the inside of folders which wasn't scanned when they disposed of the hard copies of things.
In the end I decided to get a price for a new copy of Sage (the previous 1 was about as old as electricity itself) which I mentioned to my boss, he said it was a bit steep but our accountants got us a discount for it which he agreed to buy so I'm pleased about things. Gives me a years cover which I expect to be hammering too which is a nice bonus too.
Only problem now is that because I'm installing the new software I want do so using my log in details (to rid the company of a load of links to the old regime) & it means setting a load of other stuff up but that's a far easier & less stress-inducing problem than the last 1.
