I have been approached by a neighbour who has been organising a local action group to oppose the building on green belt in our area. Basically the group have raised funds to rent a room meet and print leaflets etc. Someone has donated a £100 cheque (previously just bits of cash) and they approached a couple of local banks to open an account but with no luck.
I would be happy to help out with free book keeping for them but are there legal issues here? I mean they are hardly going to be a charity, we are only talking a few hundred pounds, maybe that is why the bank were not interested. I was thinking about a post office account with 2 representitives of the group as administrators?
Most banks will have a treasurers account available. All you normally need is a constitution. I was a community development officer in a previous life an dealt with this kind of think a lot. I can't remember ever having any problems.
As for doing the bookkeeping, I can't see how there would be an issue with it.
