First time working in UK - Tax return
Permalink Closed

If someone has just started working in the Uk as self employed and then subsequently employed would the tax return be treated any differently?

It covers the period January to April 5th 2013.

Regards,

Elaine

Hi Elaine

What date did they arrive?
Do they intend to stay?
Was the self employment in the UK, as well as the employment?
What were the dates for each?

Hi Michelle,

He arrived in January as Self employed and then in March and onwards is now employed.

He is an architect I think. Not sure if he is staying but I can ask the question.

Hi,

Corrections for the above. He arrived in the country July 2012. Started work as self employed in November and is still self employed as well as employed.

He has provided me with Sales invoices, receipts and his P60 from his employer.

Morning Elaine

You will need to consider Residency and Domicile.

Here's a good place to start.

www.hmrc.gov.uk/international/residence.htm

You may need details of his home country income, and double check whether he was on a taxable benefit at any point.

Hi,

Intends to stay in UK. Been living here since last July. No foreign income or benefits at all.

Already paying income tax from his regular job.

Continuing in employment and Self employment.

Yes. I've completed the self assessment and submitted and client has paid.

Love clients like that. He was so easy to deal with and has kept good records.

More like this please.
