Child Benefit

Hello Guys

I have a client who received a letter from HMRC stating that they are going to start charging tax on his child benefit.

According to his P60 his pay for April 2013 was £ 52,704.

His basic salary is 3,875 per month equating to £ 46,500.

He has a Car allowance of £645 per month, and a commuting addition of £ 268.80.

According to his P11D he has private medical insurance of £700 per year.

Is there anyway round he can avoid paying tax on his Child Benefit too?

Cheers

Rob

Don't think there is anyway around paying this unless your client elects to not receive child benefit but that would only be worth doing if the salary was £60k as the whole benefit is wiped out at that point. The tax should equate to 27% of the child benefit so it could have been worse I guess!
