I have a potential new client that uses MoneyManager. I am familiar with Quickbooks and Sage but have never used it. I've downloaded a free trial and it looks horrendous. I can't work out what's going on at all! The client is flexible on software and has said he doesn't object to me changing but I had planned on sticking with what he had until end March and then starting the new year with Quickbooks. I can't even work out how to get a trial balance out of MoneyManager. Does anyone have any advice for me? I haven't changed software mid-year before, would it be a nightmare? I don't want to say no to the client as it's quite a few hours a month which would be great particularly as he's flexible in theory on the software. I want the client but I'm not sure I can bond with Money Manager.
Do you see an 'FA' icon to the top right. You might be missing the Final Accounts add-on. This has the TB, Balance Sheet, private use adjustments etc.
It's a great book-keeping program but has been left undeveloped for too long - iXBRL in particular made it redundant as far as limited companies are concerned.
No I can't see that. I only have the free trial, maybe that's why. Maybe I just need to keep an open mind. The previous bookkeeper is going to spend some time with me going over it. But I love Quickbooks and enjoy using it, I'm not sure I want to spend a quarter of my time using something I don't enjoy. I use Sage 2 days a month with another client and I really don't enjoy that. It's money I guess.
There can't be many who'd use the latest version without the Final Accounts add-on (available up to version 6). Perhaps the old bookkeeper uses this earlier version. I've known them to be quite accommodating with their licensing if you explain the situation.
They said they are working on FA v7 and it's always being requested on their Facebook page. Payroll software has been their top priority for several years now.
Although it saves me a small fortune in licences, I can't see it being worth your while to learn it for one client.
Thanks. I downloaded the latest version but when I loaded up the client's data it said it was an old version so I might see it when I'm at his offices. I do want to change over to Quickbooks but I'm not sure about doing it in the middle of the year. I haven't done that before.
