Morning all.

Just thought I would say hi as I have just joined the forum and am keen to meet others like me. I am a qualified ACCA now doing bookkeeping, management accounts and payroll all perfectly within Regulation 8 of course. I started my business about a month ago and it is going really well so far. So glad I made the move.

David

Hi David,

welcome to the forum.

very much looking forwards to chatting as you build you business.

How are you finding offering the restricted services? How have you been managing to find work offering only those services? Personally I found it impossible in my area and had to get supervision in order to offer a wider service but I keep thinking that I must have missed some trick as others not too far distant from myself seem to be doing ok?

Then again, my particular area of Cannock, Rugeley and surrounding areas is ex mining community and pretty deprived with a lot of competition for very few businesses so it may be that I'm basing my experience and advice often shared on here, on a business environment that is not the norm for many area's.

Now, considering the amount of competition here, if only I could figure out how to sell doing the bookkeeping for bookkeepers I would be made. lol.

All the best,

Shaun.

Offering the restricted service is working well. I have been open for business for 4 weeks and have monthly bookkeeping work for 14 limited companies and soon to be one charity. I also have a meeting next week with a local firm of accountants who would like to outsource bookkeeping to me which will be great. I should get my first payroll in the next few weeks also.

I set up the business not wanting to do stat accounts and tax, so am not affected by the restrictions at all. Clients are happy to have a good bookkeeper and to pass on their end of year figures to their accountant to do his/her thing.

I am based down on the South coast and the economy seems very buoyant with some 20 limited companies per week being registered within a 10 mile radius of my business, so plenty of leads/business.

I have also just finished my website which will hopefully produce some leads.

I have followed your posts for a few weeks, and am very impressed with your knowledge and dedication to this industry, so it will be a pleasure to chat and exchange views.

Kind regards.

David

Hi David,

Good to hear you are doing so well. I think Shaun and I both hope the buoyancy from the South manages to filter up towards the Midlands soon!

I can vouch for it being buoyant in the South, there's plenty out there at the mo.

I'm clearly going to have to move back 'home' or open a Loughton office...

Hi David, Welcome to the forum. I am also an ACCA newbie. Well done on getting all those clients. What is the secret or should I just move house? Violet

Hi Violet. They have all come from acquaintances that I have made along the way that got in touch once I had let people know what I was up to. LinkedIn and Facebook have helped. I also wrote to 20 local accountancy firms letting them know about me and my services and requesting to work with them, I had one response from a large firm with whom I am meeting this week. Quite a few local firms seem to have realised that having a part time finance manager might be the way forward in the current economic climate so there is work of that type out there at the minute.

Hi David. Thank you for sharing. There is hope! I am going to write to accountants in my area and see what that brings.

It is worth a try Violet as you are only spending the cost of a stamp. Have you got an email address, as I could email you the text from the letters I wrote if it would be of any use to you?
