Changing financial year in Sage
Permalink Closed

I want to start using Sage instants for recording my own accounts.  I want to close off a year and start a fresh the following year.

How do I do this.  Last years accounts where done in excel so I need to update those first.  I then want to close off but change the year end to co-inside with the tax year.

I've never done a period end in Sage so not sure how to do it.

Elaine

Hi Elaine
I understand that you cannot change a year end in Sage once you have set it, unless you have the Accountants Plus copy although I could be wrong! Or do you just mean start a new year straight after the other? If the latter - once you have followed your year end procedures it will automatically change to the new year.

Hope youve sorted it.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

If you did the accounts in excel, I would start a fresh sage with the excel opening balances at 01.04.13

OR

Start a fresh sage using excel balances, dated 31.03.13 and then run the year end

If you reinstall sage, you can run the set up and then you will have a blank sage.  It sounds like its looking to the old company file, so it might be best to properly uninstall it first

The problem I have is I don't have a blank Sage. My laptop was playing up and I had to have it reset. I had Sage removed and reinstalled but it's just set itself where I left off but there are no blanks saved.

I hate computers at times.

I wanted to add a new client on using my Sage to make it easier for me. I am having trouble with a real simple set of accounts and cannot sort it out. Was going to start from scratch by adding everything in to Sage which wouldn't take me long but it's all gone belly up!

My head is in bits.
