Not really a bookkeeping question but, I have to bite the bullet & get a new laptop & think I need to upgrade my office.
Not sure whether to go for Home & Student (are you allowed to use this for small home business, can see anything that says you are not allowed) or Home & Business. The only difference is Outlook, but for an extra £100? I don't know?
I bit the bullet last year and got Home and Business one as I wanted a license for 3 people, me hubby and son, I'm really happy with it although certainly don't use all the functions.
Under their terms and conditions, sorry it looks like a no..

I am a Microsoft small business partner, will see if I can get any discount for you..?
Cheers
Jeremy

Of course, being slightly jaundiced by Sage tactics I fully expect that once people give up their current buy it forever approach for the much cheaper annual rental option then I can see the price increasing from the £16 per PC per year that the current deal works out to.
kind regards,
Shaun.

(I have MS Office Pro, but I almost never run any of the apps included in it - usually only when answering a "how do you do <whatever> in MS <foo>?" type question.)

Yeah I decided to use open office for the moment. I don't like it as much as office (excel mainly) but I am only using it for other halfs business invoices as I am on maternity leave until April. I will have a look when I start working again.
Whilst the £100 from Microsoft per year for Office 365 with the ability to install apps locally may seem like a lot it does come with 25gig of exchange hosting per user.
We pay £70 per year for the same from another provider, so if you did use this feature it would only cost £30 extra for the office licence.
I've just bought a new laptop and downloaded OpenOffice, too. I've always had Microsoft Office before, but I'm perfectly happy with Open Office. I have always struggled with Office 2007 anyway. It's interesting to know that even Microsoft have started to allow documents to be saved as open document format (.ods instead of .doc).
I've made a mental note to save everything in .doc format so that it can be easily accessed by Microsoft Office users.
However, my time recording software will only do its reports on Excel. So I've binned that and am recording time on a spreadsheet instead.
