first up, great to hear from you as you've not been around for a while and also as Nick says, many congratulations on BKN professional institute of the year.
To answer your question in relation to is this good for bookkeeping as a profession... Just look who you are associating yourselves with.
I've been saying to James for some time that the ICB is pushing in the wrong direction when chasing the micro businesses as they generally don't really need a bookkeeper, they need a cheaper accountant which is not what the ICB qualification is geared up for and have been suggesting that the market that they are chasing is AAT/IFA/AIA territory (or those in the ICB who come to the qualification from other bodies or with additional qualifications).
It sounds as though the IAB may have been reading my posts as it looks as though they are gaining more exposure with the accountancy bodies and that can only result in more general acceptance and networking opportunities with the right people to pass on bookkeeping work and give employment opportunities.
Now I'm either glad someone listens to me or that my idea's were such common sense that others were having the same idea's anyway.

My money there would be on IAB being recognised more by accountants so excellent news for work filtering down to IAB bookkeepers. Conversely the ICB roadshow approach is chasing the end client and running this as a bookkeeper / potential client networking event where I do not think that will yield the same sort of results for its members as it works to the premise of the bookkeeper providing the full service which is not what many bookkeepers are comfortable with and entry level bookkeepers are not the right people to be giving new businesses start up advice.
I think that the IAB approach which seems to be more of looking to become closer to being recognised as a service provider to the accounting profession is the right one but I am sure that others will have differing views. (wouldn't be much of a forum if we didn't have differing and opposing views would it, lol).

Yes it has been a while since I have been on the site. I have been very busy with clients work and my students. So again this will have to be a short reply.
I also have to admit I have not been able to give either of my professional bodies much of my time this year.
With the IAB also celebrating its 40th anniversary, I do know the IAB are really pleased to be awarded the BKN professional institute of the year and I am sure would like to thank everyone who voted for them.
