Further on from my first post about a new start up, I have had an enquiry for some work! The details are a little vague at the moment but he is a small business with 4 employees. He is needing bookkeeping, accounts, VAT and payroll to be completed. I did not want to offer payroll at his stage. i am qualified to do the work but as I have done none at all since qualifying 4 yrs ago, I just don't feel confident enough to take this on at the stage, however I do not want to lose a potential customer! Can I outsource the bookkeeping work to someone else? Will the client need to know about this if the other bookkeeper invoices me and I include it in my price? I do hope to offer this service in the future, once I have refreshed myself on this and got up to date with RTI.
How much would you charge for this amount of work (obviously only a rough estimate as not much detail)?
I think i maybe would mention that someone else will be doing the payroll for you as it stops any potential embarrasment in the future, but there is no reason why you cant outsource it, i think Kris does that with no problems. Apologies Kris if i am mistaken.
As for the price it really depends, are they weekly or monthly? Do they get paid the same hours everytime or is there a lot of changes everyweek. Does it include a pension, bonus, CIS monthly reports etc?
Basically i priced my payroll on the work involved not the number of employees?
Kind regards
Nick

I am not sure, without checking, if you must disclose the fact you are outsourcing, but common courtesy suggests you should. Your PI insurer does need to know you are doing this, and whether the subcontracting firm carries its own PII, however.
Your engagement letter should deal with this to clarify who will be responsible to the customer for making good any errors that occur, and who will be issuing invoices. Your outsourcing agreement must also deal with these points.
