Monthly ICB event in London. Where and when is it ? Can I join the event even if I am AAT affiliate ?
Permalink Closed

Hello.

I know that there is an ICB event in London each month.

I would kindly ask where is the time and location ?

If AAT affiliate members are allowed to join ?

Thank you

Adrian

Hi Adrian,

Yes, you can. As a non-member you do not get the discount and the Earlybird tickets have sold out. It is £150 to join the conference. It is on the 14th Nov, starts at 10am.

This is the address:

Pullman Hotel
11-110 Euston Road
Kings Cross
NW1 2AJ

Hope this helps.

Marge

Hi Marge,

I could be wrong but I think that Adrian is talking about local ICB meetings rather than the clan gathering at Saint Pancreas.

Hi Adrian,

Unfortunately it is an ICB member only event, a very popular one as well as it gets fully booked early.

They are actually thinking of running 2 a month.

Hi Adrian,

I think you will find many IFA branches are happy for AAT members to attend their branch meetings as well as IAB members. You just have confirm with the local branch they have space, and book a place directly with the branch.

There is a London Branch meeting on Wed 13 November 6-9pm at H10 Hotel London Waterloo, SE1 8RQ

You will need to go to the IFA website, and look up the branch for the contact details of the person you need to check with first.

Hi Frauke,

More proof that the IAB do not have any meetings?

Not sure you can call it an IAB members benefit if they are not organised by IAB and anyone can attend...

P.S just friendly banter biggrin

Just thought I would add that some ICB branch meetings do welcome non members, you pay slightly more as the membership fee subsidises the meetings in some cases.

However some are too popular, the London branch restrict it to 30 people to keep the friendly group feel, and they sell out quick.

Perhaps Adrian if you were thinking of joining the ICB I could get you a place to show you what goes on? (no promises but if you are interested call me on 0845 060 2345).

Many thanks Frauke and James,

Dear James,
Is there any advantage joining ICB after AAT apart from networking ?
How much is the membership fee ?

Many thanks,

Adrian

Dear Frauke,

I am considering joining the November one, I have checked the website and it says 6 - 9.

Do you think it is any problem if I am late like 30 min ? as I might be working until 6 on the day.

I would like to thank you very much for your help,

Adrian

Actually you are very wrong James ....   Your comment shows more proof of your lack of understanding of the running of a professional body and quite frankly "petty minded" ....       Sorry, just friendly banter! biggrin

The IFA don't organise the meetings, members do, and historically they are under the IFA banner.  Some are IAB members not IFA members. I think the Chairman of the east Anglian branch is not a IFA member, but a IAB only member.  Some branch committees have a mixture members from both organisations.  The IFA provides the bugets, and the IAB reimburse the IFA for members who attend meetings. The reason I mentioned contacting the branch meeting organiser, is not all meetings are open to just anyone. Of course it is good manners to book your own place at any type of meeting/event.

Adrian, just let the organiser know you will be late.

Hi Adrian.

I run the meeting and we do have some members who are not ICB members.  However, it does need an ICB member to book it.

This month's meeting in Wednesday 30th October and will feature the ICB's Stuart Morris discussing AMLR.

As for two a month -

We may look for a bigger venue first!

Thank you Liz,

Is there any chance to join this one as non member ?
How much does it costs the ICB membership ?

Thank you Frauke,
I will let them know in case I am late.

Have a lovely day.

Adrian

Hi Adrian,

Full Member (Certified Bookkeeper) + Practice Licence + MLR (Free) is £178 per year. Exemption and joining fees at that level would be £309.

@Frauke, touched a nerve? biggrin Actually that Chairperson is definitely FTA (part of IFA), appears on IFA's website as a member, and is listed as the IFA member in charge of that region on their website.

I don't believe that Frauke ever said that the chairperson was not associated with the IFA James, she's saying that its a genuine joint event regardless as to who chairs it.

I did actually write a reply to this one yesterday but Firefox crashed (I did have 108 tabs open so I blame myself) and I couldn't summon the energy to write it all over again. Plus of course if you do that it's not from the heart but rather simply trying to remember word for word what you wrote the first time... And I'm not known for short posts.

I will say though that I did think at the time of reading the first reply that simply adding the last line to the post does not diminish the two sentences that came before it.

kind regards,

Shaun.

Hi Adrian,

Call 0845 060 2345 and ask for me, I can do it over the phone.

Sorry if my post seemed a little harsh, I was just picking up on someone else's comment on friendly banter, I was just trying to point out confusion (maybe it was only mine biggrin). I type almost all of my posts with a smile and don't want to offend anyone. Most of the time though I am short on time so make them quick so may appear blunt.

Shaun I was responding to Frauke's statement "I think the Chairman of the east Anglian branch is not a IFA member, but a IAB only member"

Hello James,
Many thanks,
I will call in the next couple of minutes,

I think all professional bodies are cool and we should all get together in a friendly manner as there is always room for improvement.
There is a lot of information and a lot of updates every day.
We can all enjoy this profession from beginners (like me) to all the experienced members in this forum.

Kind regards,

Adrian
