Accessing Client's Sage Instant Accounts Remotely
Permalink Closed

Hi

Hope someone can educate me as not clued up on technology etc.

I have had a query from a potential client who ideally wants me to work off site. They have Sage Instant (not sure which version) and wants me to be able to access it remotely. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do this/what's involved as have never work remotely. I have only ever used Cloud software packages or worked onsite.

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

Many thanks

Hi Ferb

You can get a desktop sharing package from logmein. I think there is a free version still which needs to be installed on both PC's so you can log in to the clients pc off site and work as if you where sat in front of it.

I use logmein frequently for remote support sessions and it works really well. Though the version i use (l logmein rescue) is a paid for service.

Sure there are many other options if you search around google.

Hope that helps

Thanks

Jeremy

logmein is NOT free for commercial use

Other good commercial products include gottomypc and teamviewer.

Free options include Microsoft Remote Desktop which is included in Pro versions of their operating system and several different versions of VNC which are open source and free for commercial use. The issue with these options is that you need to add a port map to the router to allow incoming connections so are a bit more of a faff to set up.

Hi Bruce, are you sure logmeinfree is not for commercial use.....? Per website it says you can have up to 10 PC's free of charge and no mention of use limitations? I don't know anyone who would have 10 PC's for personal.use....? Logmein free is in my opinion the best and easiest option.

Bruce,

I'm also under the impression that logmein is free.

Irrespective of whether it is or isn't, I've logged into remote computers at the computer owner's invite using join.me free (another logmein product). Below is a direct quote from their FAQs:

join.me free allows you to hold an unlimited number of meetings with up to 10 participants per meeting (one organizer plus nine viewers). You can chat with participants, transfer files, join the audio part of any meeting by internet (VoIP), and allow participants to control your computer.

It may not be as convenient as logmein for OP's stated purpose but I've found the voice capabilities great when grappling with some IT issues with my daughter - we can both see the same screen at the same time and talk trough the problem without needing Skype activated.

HTH.
