Hi

Does anyone know how you deal with these? My client has an offer with them, they are a sole trader and not VAT reg. They get the income direct from Groupon the client also mentioned that there is a loop hole with Groupon that means you can claim back some VAT - does anyone know anything about them?

DO I get random question of the day award?!

Even if there is.... they are not VAT reg so NO.... cheeky buggers...!

I wouldn't even dream of asking my bookkeeper/accountant that... I'm not VAT reg so makes me think I can claim it back...! LOL

I would record the income separately from normal income, as groupon have fees they will 'indirectly pay' Do you know how groupon etc work?

in short, you offer a product/service for say £100... Groupon etc (as there's more than one type) then take a percentage of that cost as a fee normally in the region in 60-70%. So not only are you offering a product as a discount you have to pay horrendous fee's to boot! I have heard of some people (wanting to use the service) having to pay groupon up front fees!!!
They really aren't worth the hassle, for what you pay out you gain very little in return!

But in terms of categorising the sales I would do it separately then YOUR client can see how much money they are wasting using these!! Tell them to try and use more local based ones, they tend to charge less and have a better return rate as the prospective customers are in the area and not further afield.

Hi Rachael,

How are you getting on with reconciling the groupon income?
