I have had an email from a client this morning asking about transferring money. I intend to reply that I know nothing about this subject and can not advise him however I would then like to point him in a useful direction. The exact question is
"I am going to pay a 10K deposit ... in Ireland this week do you know (or can you find out?) the cheapest/best way to transfer the money? I've heard there's good and bad ways to exchange euros - is the bank the best way?"
Any thoughts? Thank you Sylvia

Would just suggest he gets his Bank to do a transfer (can do a same day one or one that takes a couple of days, the same day one is usually a few pounds more to transfer). Definitely DO NOT send a sterling cheque. If he has a euro account then a euro cheque is good.
