Hi all, I'm just looking to introduce myself.  My name is Steve and I am an ACCA / AAT qualified accountant.  I have been working within practice for 10 years, am married and have three kids.

I run my own accountancy practice and am always on the lookout for new clients!

Hopefully I can add some value to the forum by sharing my experience where appropriate.

Thanks

Steve

We always get reminded what a small world it is!

The first person I meet on this forum worked in Cheltenham, the chances of that :)

You had enough of putting up with the races each year then?  To be honest I've never even been.

Hi Steve,

On your website you offer free bookkeeping software.  Could I ask what it is?

Thanks,

David.

Hi David, no problem.

It's VT cashbook, which is free to the public anyway but many clients will not be aware of this and also like a recommendation from an accountant.

It's not an all singing and dancing suite like Sage and Quickbooks perhaps but is perfect for smaller businesses in my experience.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

we've spoken briefly before on the forum so just an official welcome in this thread.

I tried getting a few clients to use VT Cashbook but ended up spending more time on the phone to them than it was worth and when they sent me their files invariably I would end up starting over rather than being able to take their input.

Might be worth mentioning on the site that VT Cashbook is absolutely useless to the likes of ourselves and we need its big brother VT Transaction+ (Which is admittedly a one off fee but a very reasonable one saying as its for unlimited clients).

I assume that like myself you are also a VT Accounts shop.

Personal view is that for many businesses (especially service businesses) VT Transaction+ can go head to head with the likes of Sage and Quickbooks and win.

After suffering Sage when I first started out I absolutely love the product and would not now return to Sage even if they got rid of the client tax.

Like your website by the way. Very professional looking.

All the best,

Shaun.

p.s. surely that is a car stuck to a wall and converted into a bookcase and under cupboard.... With the price of petrol and car tax for a V12 Jag I would imagine that such would be the only sensible use for one.

First thing that occured to me about the picture was "Thats going to take up far more width of the room than a billy bookcase".

Then I moved onto "Must have removed all of the workings (Engine/ gearbox/frame/axles/etc.) otherwise its (a) going to be top heavy and (b) there's going to need to be additional structural supports to the house to support that nailed to the wall.

The I thought, hang on a sec, thats the back end of a Jag but the front end of a Merc so combined with the impractical nature of the bookcase simply concluded that it was photoshoped. (I rejected it just being a picture background due to the cupboard in the Jag half of the cars boot... Unless the cupboard is also a picture).

Clever talking point for your site though that really makes in memorable.

HI Shaun,

Couldn't agree with you more.  I use VT trans+, VT final accounts and taxcalc.  I really like all of these and agree that cashbook is limited, but has a purpose if you just need to keep the bank or an I & E account.

I don't really like Sage myself, I just feel it's over the top.  As an accountant I can happily use if to do the year end accounts etc but wouldn't choose it as a bookkeeping package.

Thanks for your comment on the website, to be honest I felt it needs to be even more professional but still keep some character and have someone on the case!  I really like the current one but felt that some potential clients may have different expectations from an accountants website.

Have a holly jolly weekend!

Steve
