Thought would start a topic to see how everyone is getting on.
Cheer me up by saying you still have as much to do as me
Total tax returns to be done 100
Already lodged 23
WIP 22
Books in still to start 22
Still to be handed in 33
Should get all the WIP and most of the ones already in but still to be started done (probably not much hope for the ones still to come in). Though did give a cut off to clients to hand everything in by the end of Nov or couldnt guarantee getting submitted on time.
Oh and better fit my own return in at some point!!!!!!!!!!!
Guess that will be sometime on the 30th or 31st.
Lot of long nights ahead over the next few weeks. In fact just finishing for tonight and back tomorrow, plus every day this month.
Need to get things better organised for next year.
I'm feeling your pain! I drew up my list at the start of December and started to get really frightened, but that is the same every year. I have now moved 69 from that list to the completed list but still have 56 to do of which 28 have not come in yet. Of the 5 I worked on yesterday, I couldn't complete three as there is missing information. The other problem I find is as I'm getting so much work out now the phone never stops ringing with clients wanting to make appointments or people just walking in with signed accounts/tax returns so lots of interruptions to deal with. At least its always a lucrative couple of months but how much nicer to have an even spread!
Was working on a bit of a nightmare one today. New client who has Kashflow who doesnt know how to use it. Never used it before as i use xero for online solution but at least will give me some practical experience. Was items on his bank account not on the bank statement, items on the bank statement not on his bank account, cash receipts posted to the bank account, etc etc.
Anyway onwards and upwards. Got 5 done yesterday and now a week ahead of my schedule that have drawn up which is just as well as expect some will hand in stuff in the last week saying "mine is a simple tax return can you get it filed in time".
But teaching a bookkeeping course all day Tuesday and out at my biggest client on Thursday morning so thats 1.5 days this week gone.
So far this month I've done 27 self assessment tax returns and 4 sets of statutory accounts.
Still have about 35 self assessments and 3 sets of statutory accounts to do. Bookkeeping mostly up to date in all cases so just need to fill in the actual forms.
Don't feel as pressured as I normally do by this time.
I had all my regular clients hand in their stuff in November... much to my dismay!
So that was around 15, had 5 done from earlier in the year.... then Christmas hit and i had someone call me Christmas eve enquiring, then on Christmas day!
Ive had a steady stream of enquires since really... I started with 22 clients before the holidays, now hit 30! Plus the daily work of going into peoples offices doing their bookkeeping.
Next year I'm putting people on online solutions and now that i have Xero partner status that may be alot easier and fingers crossed I can get those regulars done well beofre October so all I need to do this time next year is look after new clients! :D
Fingers crossed Mark i'll be in the same situation as you next year! (with the amount of clients! not workload! lol)
60 returns already completed, but waiting for 9 of them to tell me that I can submit.
6 to go - 2 will be tomorrow, 1 is sending over some answers to queries tomorrow, 1 is allegedly emailing his details tomorrow and 2 haven't even sent across ANY paperwork yet.
