I am new here, so please be generous - I have had a request to prepare a one off set of management accounts from Sage line 50 - a software I havent used before. My initial thoughts are to request the client for a Trial balance then prepare the accounts on Excel. Is there a better way to do this? I currently use VT for preparing accounts. I would appreciate comments on what else to look out for with sage or if there is any other info I need.

They could save you re-keying if they save the TB as a csv file.

Yes, I would use ODBC to pull the current data from Sage and save all that copying and pasting and need to run reports to file.

Bruce - is ODBC open database connectivity? - can you tell me more about whether it is a programme in its own right to purchase/download or whether it's an add-on functionality to existing programmes - (I don't want to digress too much from the focus of this thread but can you let me know either PM me or message me on LinkedIn so I know how I can get ODBC and use ODBC because I haven't the foggiest and sounds like I should know what it is)
Yes, ODBC is Open DataBase Connectivity. Every product in the Sage Line 50 family ships with an ODBC driver for the data version used by the product. In that sense it is free.
