Hi I was studying AAT Level 2 with Premier, and have been for the past two years. I've done all the assignments and practice exams about a year ago but due to work/family commitments, and lack of money (its £50 an exam) I've just not had a chance to take the actual exams. There is a local test centre where, I believe, I can just go and sit them whenever I'm ready, which I plan to do over the next three months.
What I'd like to know is, as its been so long, can I just study and take the exams for Level 3 on my own? I have all the workbooks as I got them all at the same time as Level 2. Its been so long since I spoke to my tutor at premier (again - I lapsed the first year then had to pay more to get the up to date Sage package), that I'm sure I am no longer considered a student with them. My youngest goes to school in September, so I would like to be able to offer more services (Management accounts) and expand my business, and possible do Level 4 too.
I did the same thing, I was with premier on level three and stopped for a while, then picked it up with 6 months left.
What I would do is contact premier and make sure you are still a student with them, I think you get two years. If you are, then just take the exams at your local centre. Your spreadsheet assignment you can take at work as long as you and your work place meet all the criteria.
If your two years have lapsed then I'm sure they are open to bribery being such a nice bunch . I'm reasonably sure, (it was the case a few years back) that you can't take the exams without a provider.
Thanks Steve. I will contact them. I'm going to do my Sage exam tomorrow morning so will be sending them my results on that and hopefully they will say whether i can start studying Level 3 yet.
I did all of the AAT exams on my own, bought the books and sat the exams at a local test centre. Call around. BPP only charged the AAT exam fee ie they didn't add an admin fee. I bought distance learning modules for the spreadsheets and other papers that needed to be marked internally. Other centres added quite a bit on top. If your books are a few years old you may need to get updated versions. I took mine when they introduced new ones and had to make sure I sat the correct version of the exam. Good luck!
