I use it all the time. Just set it up as a printer and went you print t that printer it saves it as a PDF instead.
I then just attach the file to an email and make the printing someone elses expense.

"Its handy to print stuff off from HMRC's site like the sumbmission pages etc, and save them as PDF to them add to clients files. "
Don't HMRC usually offer a link to print or save as PDF anyway when you've submitted something? (I only do my own tax return, and that certainly does offer the options after submitting.)
And most decent office productivity software should offer the option to save/export as PDF.
(I used to have a PDF printer installed - with the stunningly original name PrintPDF IIRC - but it's so long since I needed to use it, somewhere down the line I uninstalled it.)
I'd be interested to know what software people are using that doesn't provide the option to save/export as PDF - if only for future reference so I can avoid it. :p

For printing to PDF I use the free PDFCreator (http://www.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator).
For transferring information from PDFs into Excel I've found Able2Extract (http://www.investintech.com/able2extract.html) capable of doing jobs many of the other offerings can't (including - would you believe it - Adobe's own offering!!!). It is particularly good at retaining columnar information in the correct columns. There's a free trial period (restricted to the number of pages that can be done in one go). After that it's not free (from memory <$100) but if you need this capability I think it is fantastic value for money.

Hi Vince. Andica doesn't offer the option to print to PDF for a tax calculation. All other reports it does. Amphis likewise.
Kris
This is true. However, if you do use a pdf writer (Bullzip here) for Andica you will get separate pdf for each section of the return. For the purpose of putting it altogether as one pdf may I recommend FoxyUtils MergePDF. Simply upload the documents in the order in which you want them to appear and hey presto! One document!

Okay... I'm now going to eat my own words, because I've just started working on a little piece of software for someone (not accounts related), and I realised it's going to need to output to PDF.
Incorporating open source code isn't an option, and nor is paying a licence fee for a commercial solution, so the only way it'll be able to do it is by having a suitable PDF printer, such as CutePDF, installed on the target system.
So not all decent software includes the option to export as PDF, after all. :)

It was originally recommended as the PDF printer for VT Transactions, so I downloaded the free printer version. I have since upgraded to the full editing version for editing, encrypting, redacting, and converting to excel/ word etc.
A fraction of the price of a lot of other PDF editing software.
