Payroll software

We switched over to Moneysoft for payroll last year and and although there is lot's abut it that I like, there are a few things I don't e.g. not seeing the employee's first name on the pay screen, having the employees arranged in order of joining and not being able to search for a particular employee and not being able to vary the pay date (a lot of our clients pay a bit early some times and a bit late sometimes). On top of that it seems to be quite an unstable piece of software, today I opened it up to find random chinese characters in some of the fields and we have had other problems with it as well.

So I'm looking at alternatives and wondered if anyone has any recommendations? Maybe we should just switch back to Quickbooks, which is what I used pre RTI (I swapped mainly because of the cost).

I use 12Pay because it does everything I need, it's not nearly as expensive as the competition (Moneysoft aside) and the support you get from the team in TwelvePay Towers is great. It's worth investigating. www.12pay.co.uk

If you right click on someone's name in the pay details section you are given this box in which you can change the way things are presented.

To find the list of employees names just use "Ctrl  E" and this should give you them in a box.

Hi Ruth,

If you do choose to continue to use our software and need help on this type of thing then please feel free to call us on 08456 444 555 and we will talk you through each of these features.

- As Peasie explains, you can choose to display the full name of each employee by choosing the Employee Selections options

- Click 'Employee - Employee Details' and then 'Sort' to choose the order in which employees are displayed. You can also use the 'Raise' and 'Lower' buttons at the bottom of the screen to individually re-order an employee if you wish.

- When on the pay details screen, click on the 'Select Employee' button on the toolbar (the small 'head' icon) which helps you to find a particular employee.

- Click 'Tools - Pay Dates' if you wish to change a particular monthly pay date in the circumstances you describe.

We have a support website which takes you through each of these (and other) items http://www.moneysoft.co.uk/support/payroll-software/payroll-manager-videos-and-guides.htm , or feel free to call/ email with your queries..

If you do decide to look elsewhere then we've also heard lots of good things about 12pay.

Regards,

Richard Carey

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply...that's a lot for the Moneysoft tips, that's great, I'll have a play with that in a moment.

For the change pay date thing I've found that before but the warning that pay will be recalculated for all pay dates has put me off using it, as I don't want to have everything recalculated. But I will call the helpline to discuss in case I'm missing something there.

Thanks again

Ruth

Try changing the date on the sample company where it doesn't matter.

You're welcome Ruth.

'Tools-Pay Dates' gives the warning message to deter someone from going back and changing previously processed (& RTI submitted) periods - but it is fine to change the pay dates of months that have yet to be processed should you need to. Best wishes, Richard
