I got a call on Tuesday night, and discovered I was lucky enough to have been voted onto the AAT council.  I want to say thanks to anyone on here who voted for me.  It is a real honour and I really appreciate it.

I will doing my best in getting the AAT to be a more pragmatic qualification to help bookkeepers/accountants and small business owners, and get away from the academic things such as guided learning hours and all that bumpf.

Thanks again

Nick

Congrats on the new title Nick.

Hope that you've accepted the challenge of reversing the current trend of dumbing down qualifications.

An interesting line in there about making the qualification equally applicable to bookkeepers, accountants and business owners as each group is looking for something a little different.

Bookkeepers want speed to market with the best possible skillset to compete and with a qualification that opens rather than closes doors for them.

Those going into accountancy need to very much know standards and ethics from the academic as well as practical side of things to prepare them to move upwards.

Business owners need more emphasis on the management accounting side of the fence in order to get a basic grasp of performance management, costing, pricing strategies, etc.

Making one qualification serve all three may be a serious challenge.

But, if anyone is up to that challenge you're definitely the man for the job.

Good luck moving ever onwards and upwards,

All the best,

Shaun.

p.s. If in your new role you need any other council members convinced that you're in the right Neil and myself are real cheap. Plus we've got our own blow torch and pair of pliers. wink

Congratulations Nick !

I didn't knew that the AAT council exists.
I think its time to actually start reading the aat magazines and not just collecting them.
All the best,

Adrian
